Where did "River Rocks" come from?
The name “River Rocks” was given to us through the combination of several passages as it relates to our vision for reaching our community.
John 7:37-39 (NKJV) "37 On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. 38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” 39 But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified."
Matthew 16:15-18 (NKJV) "15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”16 Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” 17 Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. 18 And I also say to you that you are Peter (Petros – meaning “little rock”), and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it."
Expanding the vision...
It is our vision to develop followers of Jesus Christ to live out their calling to reach the lost people within their community. Just as Jesus called Peter a “little rock,” we are reminded that we are all “little rocks” which have been placed throughout our community to influence our friends and neighbors towards Jesus Christ. We recognize that it is not our strength or ability to do this but, rather, the Holy Spirit which flows out of our lives like “Rivers of living water”. Just as each rock in a river has an influence on the environment around it, we recognize the real power to influence comes from the river itself.
The Community...
River Rocks Church will be a community of believers that allows the Holy Spirit to guide and direct our lives so that we radically affect our environment (friends, coworkers, and neighbors) by influencing them towards the love of our Heavenly Father and our Lord Jesus Christ as revealed by the Holy Spirit.
